FIRST, A RANT
Ah, I had a nice 3 day weekend...and I spent TOO MUCH time online shopping and pinterest-ing. I've also thought a lot about how I want to do future fashion posts on this blog. I started off wanting to be like other Asian fashion blogs, notably Eiffel in Seoul, identifying name brand pieces, comparing their styling versus the original runway styling, yay-ing or nay-ing...but after 2 days of trying to figure out what the heck people were wearing without (1) a good enough reading fluency in Korean or Chinese nor (2) an adequate knowledge/time ability to keep up with ALL the fashion shows (fall/winter, spring/summer,
This just wasn't working. I almost completely gave up the idea of posting on fashion on this blog. But I guess my heart wasn't ready to let go, because here I am with another idea. This time, I'm just going to post on trends that have a more narrow focus and were basically inspired by one or two outfits I've recently been loving. There will be no id'ing, just me gushing. I guess I'm just going to keep experimenting with formats and topics until I find a happy medium where I'm actually happy and excited to work on the post, but not where it's too sloppy that it wasn't even satisfactory to put together.
And if all else fails, the world is not going to end because I stopped posting on Asian fashion. Especially if that means more time and effort on Asian drama posting. :D
Anyway, rant done. Time to talk about
PLAID & CHECKERS
So, I've definitely noticed that plaid, checkers, houndstooth, and just squares have been a popular pattern to wear this fall/winter season. I love that they've been relegated from schoolgirl outfits and casual looks paired with jeans to more wearable everyday looks and even high fashion. They have especially been making a comeback full force in outerwear - especially the wool jacket. Check these out below.
I'd have to say Park Shin-hye's red and black plaid and SNSD's Tiffany's black and white plaid/checkered wool jackets are the most wearable for everyday looks of the four I'm going to show. The lengths are the traditional mid-thigh length for dressy wool jackets. But I like that Park Shin-hye's has a slouchy, comfortable fit and is not super fitting - unlike that of the traditional wool jacket. They are both great with dressy or casual outfits.
I love Hyuna's red and black checkered wool jacket. Its full length sets it apart from the traditional wool jacket and is a popular trend for wool jackets these days. The length transforms this simple jacket to a piece of the past. Anyone putting it on feels like a rocker from the 70's or 80's...walking their dog. So casual and chic. Yeah.
But seriously.
My favorite of the four though is definitely SNSD's Yoona's green and black full length wool jacket. Just because it's green and black and not the traditional red & black or white & black. This outfit is all about the green plaid jacket, which elevates her simple outfit underneath to runway worthy. Who knew the combination of wool jacket + green plaid could be so eye-catching?
I love each of these jackets for their own reasons. They each have different feels, and stand on their own as pieces to take note of. I'd own all of them if I could afford them.
